Range finding

Pulsed lasers are powerful as emitter devices in various types of range finding or remote sensing equipment. Lasers are for instance being used in hand-held range finders for personal use, in collision warning systems in the automotive industry, in ceilometers, in laser scanners at construction sites and in military defence applications.

Pulsed microchip lasers, such as the Cobolt Tango laser at the eye-safe wavelength of 1.5 µm, are particularly suitable for mid-range distance measurements (up to a few km) due to their combination of high peak power and compact size.
